Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy!

As dōTERRA® has recently reminded me, we have the power to be what we decide to be in 2023. I like that mantra, and I’m here to encourage you along the way with a few supportive ideas for the new year! Imagine your fridge stocked with a few rows of ready-to-go jar salads, providing just the structure you might need for a lifestyle reset. Then, imagine a steaming cup of homemade hot cocoa with a kiss of sweetness that motivates you to do your healthy routine all over again the next day. Let’s do this!

On the other side of the holidays, it’s easy to find ourselves on the other side of ideal health. Whether you sampled a few too many dishes, slacked on exercise, or simply found yourself occupied by all-out combat with an army of winter threats, now is the time to reprogram our bodies to crave what’s best. There’s no replacement for whole foods and a mindful diet, steps which dōTERRA loves to help with by nurturing the mind and body with gifts of nature.

Recipe number one is a freshly flavored, perfectly packaged salad. Gather up your Basil, Lemon, and Lime essential oils before assembling these easy and elegant salad portions.

To prepare your Power Jar Salad, you’ll need:

• Quart-sized jar

• 1/2 lemon

• 1 toothpick swirl Basil oil

• Pinch of salt

• 2 drops Lemon or Lime oil

• 1 tablespoon olive oil

• Salad veggies of choice

First, squeeze lemon half into quart-sized jar. Swirl in Basil essential oil. Add pinch of salt, olive oil, and Lemon or Lime oil. Fill jar with vegetables, adding the firmest first and placing salad greens at the top. Refrigerate - salad lasts several days, kept cold. Before serving, turn jar upside down and shake to distribute dressing. When ready to serve, empty jar contents into large bowl or plate. To bulk it up, add avocado, wholesome croutons, or other toppings, including your favorite proteins.

If you end up taking the make-and-take route and assembling your Power Jars with friends, you could ask them to bring their own jars and maybe even some favorite salad items to share!

Next up is homemade hot cocoa, perfect for these long winter evenings. It’s surprisingly easy to make, and its composition need not mirror the poor nutritional profile you find on those store bought envelopes. The best part of making this hot cocoa is flavoring it with a drop of two of your favorite internal use essential oil, creating a fun new cocoa flavor!

To mix up Not Store Bought Hot Cocoa, you’ll need:

• 1 cup water

• 5 teaspoons cocoa powder

• 1/4 teaspoon liquid stevia or 1 1/2 teaspoons powdered stevia (adjust to taste)

• 1-2 tablespoons agave (optional)

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or 1/4 teaspoon almond extract

• 3 cups almond milk

Heat water, cocoa powder, and sweetener on stove until ingredients are smooth. Add extract and milk; bring to simmer. Pour into your favorite mug, then introduce more flavor by swirling a toothpick dipped in your favorite essential oil. Think dōTERRA Cinnamon Bark, Peppermint, Wild Orange, or even Lavender! Note: for extra creamy cocoa, replace water with almond milk.

People talk about all kinds of tricks to make their resolutions stick, but I think it’s all about community, and the relationships that make us want to be the best version of ourselves we can be. So I lift my hot cup of Cinnamon Bark cocoa to you and say, cheers to 2023!
